Treatment Details

Moles are clusters of pigmented skin cells that can appear flat or raised, with different tones. Freckles are small spots often influenced by sun exposure, whereas skin tags are soft, flesh-toned growths commonly found on the neck, underarms, or folds of the skin.

At S Aesthetics Clinic, moles that look irregular, unusual in shape, or measure above 3–5mm will not be removed immediately. Instead, patients may be referred to a dermatologist for further evaluation or biopsy to rule out underlying concerns before any treatment is performed.

Common Mole Removal Methods

Moles can be removed using techniques such as surgical excision, shave excision, or laser treatments. At S Aesthetics Clinic, Mole removal is performed using:

  • Electrocautery
  • CO₂ laser

The method is selected based on the mole’s depth, size, and location. For moles that appear suspicious, surgical excision is often recommended so that the tissue can be tested if necessary.

During consultation, the doctor will assess the mole’s colour, shape, and thickness to determine the appropriate technique.

What Are the Benefits of Mole Removal

Helps reduce irritation caused by friction

Moles are located in areas exposed to rubbing or constant contact, such as from clothing, shaving, straps, or accessories. Thus, it may become irritated over time. Removing these growths can help minimise repeated irritation or discomfort.

Removes distracting or unwanted growths

Some individuals prefer not to have certain raised or pigmented moles on visible areas, such as the face, neck, or body. Removal offers a way to manage these concerns while preserving surrounding skin.

Supports a more even surface appearance

Once the treated area has healed, the skin may appear more uniform in texture and tone. This can be helpful for raised moles or spots that stand out from the surrounding skin.

Allows further evaluation of suspicious moles when needed

If a mole shows unusual features, removal can allow the tissue to be examined. This helps doctors assess whether there are underlying concerns. However, at S Aesthetics Clinic, suspicious-looking moles will not be removed immediately and may first be referred for evaluation or biopsy.

  • Sessions Needed: Usually one session, although some deeper moles may need a follow-up session

At S Aesthetics Clinic, mole removal is performed using electrocautery or CO₂ laser.

What Can It Address?

  • Raised moles
  • Flat pigmented moles

The Mole Removal Procedure

Step 1: Initial consultation and assessment

The doctor will examine the mole to confirm it is suitable for removal. If the mole looks unusual in shape, colour, or texture, or measures above the clinic’s guideline, the doctor will pause removal and recommend further evaluation or biopsy by a dermatologist.

Step 2: Treatment session

The treated area is cleaned, and the mole is marked. The doctor confirms the planned method (electrocautery or CO₂ laser), and a numbing cream will be applied to the intended area before the procedure.

Step 3: Immediate post-care

You are observed briefly to ensure there are no immediate reactions, then cleared to go home. Most patients can return to normal activities the same day, following aftercare guidance.

Mole Removal Risks and Concerns

Like any skin procedure, mole removal may involve mild and temporary effects as the skin heals. These reactions are generally part of the normal recovery process and often settle within days to weeks. During consultation, the doctor will assess each mole and explain what to expect based on its depth, size, and location.

After treatment, the skin may take some time to recover. You may experience:

  • Temporary redness or swelling: These are common after the procedure as the skin responds to treatment
Minor scabbing during healing: Scabs form naturally as the skin rebuilds itself and should be left to fall off on their own
  • Mild pigment changes: Some areas may appear slightly darker or lighter for a period of time; this often improves gradually
  • Rare instances of minimal scarring: A faint mark may appear in some cases, though it is usually reduced when proper aftercare is followed

Important Note: Some moles may require further examination before removal. If the mole has irregular borders, unusual colours, or changes in texture, the doctor may recommend evaluation or biopsy first rather than proceeding with cosmetic removal.

What Is Mole Removal Treatment? How Does It Work?

Mole removal is a procedure that clears unwanted skin growths at the surface or slightly beneath it, depending on the type of mole.

Before Mole Removal Treatment

  • Avoid tanning or harsh skincare on the area
  • Inform your doctor of medications or medical concerns

Recommended Aftercare

  • Keep the treated area clean and dry for the first 24 hours
  • Avoid picking or scratching scabs
  • Apply the prescribed ointment and sunscreen after healing

How long until results are seen?

Healing typically takes about 2–3 weeks. Although results may vary depending on the skin type and treated depth.

Frequently Asked Questions

If a mole appears unusual, will the clinic recommend further testing before removal?

At S Aesthetics Clinic, removal will not be performed if a mole shows unusual features such as irregular borders, changing colour, asymmetry, or a larger size (typically above 3–5mm). In such cases, our doctors will refer the patient for further evaluation or biopsy by a dermatologist to rule out any underlying concerns before proceeding with any treatment.

In most cases, moles do not return after they are completely removed. However, if a mole has deeper roots beneath the skin, a small regrowth may occur. When this happens, a follow-up session can be performed to remove any remaining tissue.

The methods used at S Aesthetics Clinic, electrocautery or CO₂ laser, are suitable for a wide range of skin tones and skin types. The settings can be adjusted to ensure treatment is both effective and precise while helping to minimise pigmentation changes or scarring.

Mole removal can be performed on delicate areas, including the face and neck. At S Aesthetics Clinic, the procedure is done using electrocautery or CO₂ laser to help reduce discomfort and support recovery with minimal downtime.

We do not recommend trying to remove moles on your own. Many might think a mole is the same as a skin tag or seborrheic keratosis, but they’re different. Moles are rooted deeper in the skin and cannot simply be scraped or pulled off. Attempting to remove them by yourself may cause pain, bleeding, infection, and more noticeable scarring. It also carries the risk of removing a mole that may require medical assessment first. Evaluation by a doctor is important to determine whether a mole is harmless before it can be removed using clinical techniques.
